Universtity of the West of England School of Architecture Studios, Bristol
Completed 2002
The learning concept for the building is "WYSIWYG" ("what you see is what you get"), with the structure, services and materials on display. This was where we first developed ModCell® almost 10 years ago.
The building is naturally, passively ventilated and interior spaces maximise the benefit of natural daylight. A roof mounted solar collector helps heat the domestic hot water system and rainwater is harvested to flush the toilets. Showers and changing facilities have also been provided to encourage cycling.
Research into aspects of the building's performance post - occupation is supported by the building management system and sensors installed in its fabric. The building is networked and also anticipates wireless technology.
The building demonstrates 'hybrid' sustainable construction through the use of ‘ModCell®’ panels.
