Archimedia Bristol
Construction starts March 2007
The Knowle West Media Centre provides opportunities for participation in media arts by young people living in one of the most disadvantaged areas of Bristol. It is currently housed in a dilapidated building that used to be a health centre, which is now no longer fit for purpose and has led to the commissioning of a new building.
The involvement of local 11 to 16-year-olds has informed the design of the building from start to finish, influencing its cutting edge environmental design. They have even been involved in the construction process assembling one of the ModCell prefabricated straw bale cladding panels.
The new centre will be a flagship building of which the Knowle West community can feel proud, and will enable the budding creative community to explore and develop their talents freely - offering state of the art media studios, workspace and exhibition spaces for the music, art and film produced on site.
